Report of the Annual General Meeting held on Thursday November 19th in Weld’s Pub, Robertstown

Welcome & Chairperson’s Report

The 2009 IWAI Kildare Branch AGM took place on November 19th last in Weld’s Public House Robertstown. There was an attendance of 12 members with apologies received from 6 members. Current chairperson Adele Picard opened the meeting by welcoming those in attendance. The 2008 minutes were adopted and the chair went on to deliver her report. In this report Adele summarised the difficulties that led to the non-running of this year’s Easter Rally in Rathangan. She also highlighted the positive developments within the branch since its EGM in June, culminating with a highly successful joint venture with the HBA in Naas at the end of October. The full text of the Chairperson’s Report can be read here.

Treasurer’s Report

Treasurer Celine Delaney and Chairperson Adele Picard had jointly managed the accounts this year. This year’s accounts were in surplus for the first time in four years. This was welcomed by the members present and the accounts were adopted.

Election of Officers

With the current committee intent on resigning there was much discussion surrounding the election of officers. Views ranged from dissolution of the branch to forging ahead and building on a positive year to people volunteering but not committing to specific roles. The resulting election produced the following committee for 2009/2010:

Jim Connolly – Chairperson

Pa Keogh – Vice Chairperson & PRO

Adele Picard Kelly – Treasurer

Alan Kelly – Secretary

Reg Beattie – Safety Officer

Alan Kelly – Child Protection Officer

Other members present expressed a willingness to assist the committee in its duties as needs arise.

Permanent TSB Shares

It was unanimously decided that the branch will retain these shares until such time as their value increases. All previous undertakings for the use of these shares are now no longer applicable.

Merchandising

Owen B Kavanagh will investigate the redevelopment of Kildare Branch merchandise for sale at branch events.

Project Work

The branch committee will investigate the possibility of an archaeological study at the 4 Pots near Digby Bridge (16th lock, Grand Canal).

Christmas Walk

This year’s walk will take place at the Lyon’s Estate (13th lock, Grand Canal) on Monday December 28th at 11am.
